Entering the Samhain Tide

Autumn has arrived in the Southern Hemisphere and although the day temperatures where I live are still somewhat unseasonably warm, there is a distinct chill in the air as evening approaches.

South of the equator, we are entering the time of the ancestors, the begins with ANZAC Day (a day that honours those who have fallen during war and other conflicts here in Australia as well as in New Zealand) on 25 April, before the arrival of Samhain (from the Gaelic meaning "summer's end"), on 30 April, marking the gateway to winter.

During this sacred portal, our focus is drawn to those who names we remember, as well as those whose names have been lost to the passing of time.

A time to pause, to reflect, to give thanks because what is remembered lives, and will continue guiding us throughout the years to come.

A video that I created, sharing an excerpt from my book Dancing the Sacred Wheel, can be found here:

Of course, if you are in the Northern Hemisphere, then you will be approaching Bealtaine, the gateway to summer where, within contemporary witchcraft, the sacred union of the God and Goddess is celebrated as they ensure fertility returns to the land.
